Woods, C.J. ‘The authorship of a letter received by Tone in America in 1795’, Eighteenth-century Ireland/Iris an dá chultúr, Vol. 5 (1990), pp 192-194.
In 1795 during his exile in America, Wolfe Tone received a series of letters from Ireland that persuaded him to go to France to represent the United Irish movement. The note reveals the authors of three of the letters, whose identity Tone had chosen to protect, and discusses problems in identifying the fourth, only known as one of the leaders of the United Irish in Belfast.
